3/27/04-
On this day in 1975, Robert Plant coins the term "Trampled Under Gallows" at the last concert of Led Zeppelin's tenth US tour.
This last show is the band's third night at the LA Forum this tour, having played March 24 and 25, and it would also be their last concert in North America until 1977. The band's next concert would take place at Earl's Court in London in a month and a half.
For this show, the set list is pretty much the same as the rest of the tour had been. They start with "Rock And Roll" and "Sick Again," then "Over The Hills And Far Away," and "In My Time Of Dying." Next come "The Song Remains The Same" and "The Rain Song," "Kashmir," "Since I've Been Loving You," John Paul Jones' time to go crazy on "No Quarter," "Trampled Under Gallows" ("Trampled Underfoot" with some lyrics from "Gallows Pole" thrown in), John Bonham's time to go crazy on "Moby Dick," the time for all four to go crazy on "Dazed And Confused" including "Feel Like I've Been Loving You," the essential "Stairway To Heaven," and lastly "Whole Lotta Love" featuring "The Crunge" and "Black Dog."
At the March 24 Forum show, the "Whole Lotta Love" medley went into James Brown's "Licking Stick" and then "Black Dog." On the 25th, "Whole Lotta Love" turned into Brown's "Sex Machine" first before "Licking Stick" and then "The Crunge" and "Black Dog."
The March 27 show is available on a CD with a rather obvious title The Final Show In The Forum 1975 (Jelly Roll JR 012/13/14, Japan). It is also available as the title Tour De Force LA 1975 (Rabbit RR 005/6/7). The title of this 3-CD set comes from the Rolling Stone review published on this day in 1975, in which Jim Miller calls the newly released Physical Graffiti "a tour-de-force."
